Morgan grew up on Deer Isle and is well aware of the challenges of island life. After traveling to Grinnell College in Iowa, where she earned a degree in theater, Morgan returned to Maine and began working as an education technician at the Gouldsboro Grammar School as well as working as a docent at the Woodlawn Museum and volunteering in community-theater activities at The Grand in Ellsworth. Morgan returned to school to fulfill a Masters of American and New England Studies at USM, where she worked as an archivist at the Glickman Library and as a research assistant.
Morgan writes: "Having grown up on an island – Deer Isle, to be specific – I have seen the good and the bad that island life has to offer, and would like the opportunity to return to such a life, with new skills, confidence, and understanding in tow. The Island Institute fellowship again caught my eye because it would nicely bridge my academic and prior work experience with my goals of staying in Maine and contributing to the state’s educational and cultural development."
