Historical Societies
Historical Societies play important roles in communities, storing the collective memories of current and past residents and offering a glimpse of the past events that have impacted and determined the community’s development and identity.
Community Pride
An island historical society is more than an important source of information; it's also the foundation of community pride. Often run by volunteers and operating primarily during the summer tourist season, island-based historical societies have unique needs, and deal with sensitive materials that require expert care and knowledge. The Island Institute is committed to helping islanders involved in their historical societies gain the expertise and materials necessary to preserve a record of these fascinating communities.
